SACOB has since changed its name to SACCI, reverting effectively to the South African Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

With the change in name in 1990 came a new momentum with the emphasis moving to a service driven chamber. The new chamber functioned as separate operating units each headed by a member of the executive. These executives could form their own sub-committees made up of members of the chamber.

The committees consisted out of:

    • Marketing:  The function of this committee was to market the town, the chamber’s as      well as the matters of the chamber internally as well as externally. Typical actions included the Suikerbosfees, the member brochures and local                                    newspapers.
    • Training:  The chamber help numerous training sessions at a yearly basis for their members as well as their staff. Examples include costing, reception, credit control etc.
    • Recruitment:  Responsible for the renewal of current memberships as well as the recruitment of new members
    • Secretarial
    • Finances
    • Social:  Coordinated all social events such as business breakfast and year-end functions
    • Public relations:  Responsible for linking with the town council, NGO’s, GPF etc.
    • Other subcommittees were created as and when the need arose e.g.. safety and security

Each of the above mentioned committees were listed on every agenda and the committee member heading that division had to report back on activities from the period before the meeting as well as activities planned between this meeting and the next.

If the chamber functions as per the above the benefits of becoming a member speaks for itself.
